The low-lighting conditions of a movie theater provide a great environment for learning about the legibility of a watch.
A modded watch may have changes to parts you’ve never considered before. It’s always good to be familiar with these terms when purchasing a modded watch.
Not noted::
Crystal: the clear part through which one reads the time. A crystal can be plastic (of various types/qualities) or glass of various types/qualities, including sapphire.
Case: the “body” of a watch, which made of various materials including plastic, metal, and high-tech ceramic composites.
Case back: The case back clips into, screws down into, or is screwed down onto the case. This closes up the watch with varying degrees of dust and water resistance.
The Spitfire Longest Flight Timezoner has come up a lot in my feeds the past few weeks.I think its one of the best looking watches out there. IWC is clearly referencing its heritage WWII watches so it has that “Allies” look, as opposed to a German “flieger”. Incorporating the rotating bezel, with insert, gives it a really bold appearance, which is different that the traditional plain bezel. These are my favorite flieger-style hands I’ve seen. I’m not a fan of the onion or diamond crowns that pilot’s/flieger watches originally incorpoated for practical reasons, but I’d take it here!
I was planning a flieger mod at some point and after seeing so much of this watch, I may have some additional ideas.
I really like the Glycine Combat Sub, especially the 42mm model at this glycine-watch.ch. link.
The case is very traditional while being unique. The range of sizes is smart. I can wear a 42mm dive watch without problems, but no bigger. I also like the short lugs. I like the Seiko SKX007 for the same reason. Its about the proportions, from my perspective.
I also like the dial/hand combination of this particular model. They give the watch its own look and avoid the copycat problem, which can be an issue.
It’s a great looking watch, and the price, for a Swiss watch, is decent.
